In my research of the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, one of the Captains of the regiment, Joseph Archambault had ties to Napoleon. He and his brother were part of the Emperor’s household staff and both would be sent to Elba with Napoleon. Joseph would be wounded at Waterloo and escape to England, eventually arriving in the United States. He would rise to the rank of Major in the 2nd PA but would fall victim to what was called the “soldiers disease”, chronic Diarrhea. He would retire from active service due to the affliction.
