Who knew the savagery of the Canadians during WWI was so widespread and notorious? One example: Germans pop their heads out of a trench with a box of cigars for the enemy, saying “Merry Christmas!” The soldiers in the other trench were Canadians. One climbed out of the trench and shot both Germans.

Andersen was somewhat notoriously attracted to young men – so to make matters more awkward, he requested that Charles Dickens’ son shave him every morning.
Dickens was wise and instead had a barber come around every day to shave his house guest. 😬
