Who knew the savagery of the Canadians during WWI was so widespread and notorious? One example: Germans pop their heads out of a trench with a box of cigars for the enemy, saying “Merry Christmas!” The soldiers in the other trench were Canadians. One climbed out of the trench and shot both Germans.

I had to relearn some facts I had been taught about WWI for this article. The kindness of the Treaty of Versailles was one of the biggest shocks to me.
