Today 160 years ago occurred the final, bloody close to the Sioux Uprising of 1862. Thirty-eight Sioux warriors were hanged in Minnesota for their part in the uprising. Initially there were 303 men sentenced to hang, but Lincoln commuted the sentences of all but those guilty of rape or participation in civilian massacres

Who knew the savagery of the Canadians during WWI was so widespread and notorious? One example: Germans pop their heads out of a trench with a box of cigars for the enemy, saying “Merry Christmas!” The soldiers in the other trench were Canadians. One climbed out of the trench and shot both Germans.

The Cult of Napoleonic worship began at the Emperor’s death in 1821, reaching it’s height during the 1840’s. The reverence for Napoleon greatly impacted German literature, where pieces of writing devoted to his glory became their own genre.
