I was talking to a friend the other day and Betsy Ross came up – she was listed as a prominent attendee of Christ Church in Philadelphia. Ross was credited with making the first American flag as commissioned by Washington. There is no documentation to validate this – and Betsy was never credited with making thr flag during her lifetime (her son seemed to push the story).

What other misremembered – or debunked history people continue to retell – do you run into?

The Hessians being drunk at Trenton is one that always gets my goat – today being December 26 I am reminded of it
